Multi-talented Michael Carberry who played cricket for England for over 10 years, has started a new career swapping his wooden bat for a wooden pencil… and is just as good! Amanda Neale had the opportunity to catch up with the star as they talk about DJ-ing, music and what inspired Michael to try his hand on the decks (listen below). They also caught up on all things cricket and the differences between the sport and arts worlds and discussed how Michael discovered his incredible talent for sketching. This week I managed to catch up with one of the newest members of the JSS family and his name is Charlie Gauntlett! We had a good chat about music, dreams and New York!

2019’s Brit Awards was a huge highlight in February’s musical calendar. On 20 February, thousands tuned in to see who would scoop one of these prestigious awards, and enjoy the incredible talent that donned the stage for the occasion, hosted by British comedian Jack Whitehall.
So, after a manic but fun search around the towns and cities of the UK, we finally found our Junior Star Singer Songwriter competition winner for 2018! After spending the day with us at the JSS final in London in December, Phoebe Maddison was announced best singer and overall winner of the competition.
Following on from our success in the Junior Star Singer competition in 2017, we came down to the studios in London, on the day of the final, to perform the demo of the song we co- wrote for the contestants. It must have been hard for the contestants because we only sang it once. Although they had the opportunity to record the demo on their phones, it still must have been a challenging task practising in the same space as all the others who were also busy trying out the song as well!
A review of Bohemian Rhapsody, by JSS contestant, Marcus Bagley-Hodkin
They promised to rock us, and they did. Bohemian Rhapsody tells the breath-taking story of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, right from his job unloading luggage from aeroplanes to blowing everyone away with a standout performance at LIVE AID.
When you’re running a nationwide contest like Junior Star Singer Songwriter, it can be easy to get so caught up in making sure the shows go smoothly that you forget what it must be like for the contestants as they give their all live on air.
So who better to help us to take a step back and see things from the contestants’ perspective than two of our previous contestants, brothers Billy and Louie Hughes. Billy and Louie were winners of the 2017 Best Group category and have been helping out on this year’s tour, first as special guests and, most recently as part of our interviewing team on our recent show on Radio Dacorum.
