By Rachael Summers, JSS artist, reporter and co-presenter Junior Star Singer Songwriter
As the 2019 series of Junior Star Singer has kicked off for another year of touring the country searching for more young people with hidden talents, I caught up with the winner of the 2018 solo category, Phoebe Maddison, to find out how she felt following her win.
Phoebe, how did you feel when you first discovered you won JSS?
I was thrilled and very excited. I received the news on Christmas Day. It is a fantastic competition with so much talent.
What made you enter the competition?
Having sung before on my local community radio station Swindon 105.5, I was aware that the competition was available, so I thought I would have a go and I am pleased I did!
Where does your love of music come from?
I believe it comes from my family of music lovers and musicians. I started singing at the age of 4.
Now you’ve become a winner, what are your aims in music?
I want to study music and performing arts. I would love to professionally record a song and perform in professional shows.
What would be your dream job?
To be a professional recording artist or West End Musical Theatre performer.
If you could wave a magic wand and change one thing what would it be?
To cure everyone in the world including myself of Type 1 Diabetes
What’s your favourite instrument?
My favourite instrument is Piano.
What is your earliest musical memory?
My first ever memory was when I was very young and singing on my own on holiday in Turkey. I knew I wanted to sing for the rest of my life.
What is the first song you ever bought?
First song I ever bought was Lollipop by MIKA
And finally, if you could sing a track with one famous person who would it be?
It would be Jessie J. Her voice is so powerful and versatile, and suited to all genres of music. She is incredible!
So, there you go! A little window into the world of Phoebe Maddison, winner of the 2018 JSS Solo category! We are really looking forward to hearing Phoebe’s winners single which she will be performing on this year’s tour. Well done Phoebe!
