The North of England has already proven to be fertile ground for growing great singing talent, with several of our star performers and winners coming from northern cities. As part of our search for this year’s competition champion, we embarked on a three-day whistle-stop tour of some well-known northern towns and cities to see what we could find.
Between the 10th and 12th August, our team visited radio stations in Rotherham, Bradford, Halifax, Leeds and York, where we met a number of stunningly talented young contestants who quite literally sang their hearts out.
Members of the team included JSS founder, Amanda Neale, co-presenter Rachael Summers, Junior Judge Georgia Lois, Junior presenters Teide Bryce and Scott Thornhill, and winner of last year’s best vocalist category, Chloe Dunne. They were also joined in Rotherham by 2016 best vocalist, Kasey Wray Wooderson.
You can meet all of our contestants and find out more about what happened on the tour on our series of blogs, covering our shows at Red Road Radio in Rotherham, BCB Radio in Bradford, Phoenix Radio in Halifax, East Leeds FM and 2 Rivers Radio in York. Thanks goes to all the amazing people at these radio stations who helped to make the shows possible and ensure that we had a fun-filled three days!
