We do love showing off our superstars, and today we’re bringing you a Q&A with the exceptionally talented Chloe Dunne, who claimed the title for Best Vocalist 2017! Read on to hear all about Chloe’s journey so far with JSS…
Congratulations on being the winners for 2017’s Best Vocalist! How did you find out?
C: When I found out, I was with a friend and hadn’t even realised I had won. Someone from the competition texted me saying congratulations, so I went on to the JSS website and saw I had won best vocalist! I was so shocked. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to win at all because there was so many talented people in the competition. I was so grateful though and still am, it was such an amazing experience.
What has been the best part of JSS so far for you?
C: My favourite part of JSS was meeting all the amazing people who also took part in it. They all had tips about different things they do when singing, which was great to learn and hear about. All of them were such talented people and I’m just so happy to have shared this experience with them.
How/why did you get involved with JSS?
C: I got involved in JSS through Amanda. She taught me at a young age and I hadn’t seen her in a good five years when she messaged me about the competition! I entered because I knew it would be a great experience for me even if I didn’t win, as well as being a confidence boost and great practice in singing to people.
What artists/bands are you inspired by?
C: I am mainly inspired by Adele because she has such a beautiful voice and such a great character. I have covered many of her songs in the past – my favourite being ‘Someone Like You’ – because they are so soulful and I can really connect to them. I love how passionate she is when she sings and I aspire to have that type of passion in my future songs.
What advice would you have for anyone who might want to pursue music as a career?
C: I would just say to try your hardest to just always be yourself, and that may sound simple but it isn’t always as easy as it sounds. No matter how nervous you may be, just show your personality and be confident, even if you don’t feel it. Just forget about everyone else who’s listening and just focus on the song (but not as in panic over the words!). Just let it flow and really think about how the song makes you feel and why you are singing it. Good luck!
What can we expect to see/hear from you this year?
C: This year, thanks to winning JSS, I will be joining them on tour around various radio stations in Britain, which will be great fun and such an experience. I will also be recording my first original song and releasing it this year, which will be nerve-racking but also exciting so watch out for that!
